Dr. Caridi was born and raised in modest circumstances in the cosmopolitan and diverse city of Brooklyn.
He walked to public schools in his neighborhood and played in the streets as if they were his backyard. His dad passed away when he was only 13 years old. He took the B train to an experimental High School, graduating in less than three years. University training took place at Stony Brook University on Long Island and eventually The University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors and received his B.A. in Biology. After that, he moved on to The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and his internship, residency, and fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital System in Manhattan. As you can see, Dr. Caridi spent most of his time in school.
After completing his medical training, he took up an opportunity to join a large group practice in the Chicago suburbs. He spent eight years servicing many hospitals and learned quite a bit about trauma, hand, reconstructive and plastic surgery. Then, a change in scenery and weather prompted a move to his beloved Austin, Texas, where he started the Austin plastic surgery practice Westlake Plastic Surgery focusing on 100 percent cosmetic surgery. Around 2010, Dr. Caridi expanded his practice focus by creating the Austin Gynecomastia Center, one of the world’s premier treatment centers for gynecomastia surgery.
Dr. Caridi will fully admit that he is a different kind of guy for sure. He is not your typical surgeon in many ways. His practice philosophy is straightforward: he is a consummate professional who offers his patients his talent with performing surgery in the context of doing the right thing. This means only offering treatments to his patients that make a real difference, done safely and reliably in a comforting and personal environment. He will often not recommend treatments if he feels you are not a good candidate or if there are extenuating circumstances that will interfere with the safety of your treatment. There are simply no compromises made in his practice. Plastic surgery is a big deal, and it is his responsibility to take great care of you, and he takes this responsibility very seriously.
He takes great pride in the strong, personal relationships he has with his patients. They are treated like family. Dr. Caridi will tell you how time flies. He has been in practice for over 30 years and is as motivated and enthusiastic as ever. Although he continues to perform all aspects of cosmetic plastic surgery, his focus is now on female breast cosmetic surgery, mommy makeover procedures, rhinoplasty or “nose jobs,” and, of course, gynecomastia treatment. Dr. Caridi has a bustling clinical practice that draws patients from all over the world and is busy doing research and publishing papers on areas of plastic surgery that interest him and for which he has a lot of experience.
In his free time, Dr. Caridi likes to be outdoors doing all sorts of things. He exercises regularly and loves to learn about the world and different cultures with extensive travel. He will tell you that he has hit his “sweet spot” in that he is having a lot of fun doing what he does best and very much enjoys making a positive impact on all his patients.
He has assumed more of an “advisor/mentor” role because of his age and experience. It’s part of giving back to a world that has offered him vast opportunities and happiness. Dr. Caridi believes in complete transparency regarding who he is and where he comes from- as such, he encourages all prospective patients to review his credentials carefully. He is very proud of his education and practice history.
