Treatment for gynecomastia with surgery in Austin at the AGC is routine. I perform over 125 cases a year for patients all over the globe. One thing they all have in common is the gynecomastia compression garment they use for the first three weeks after treatment. This helps with the swelling, the healing, and the compression feels good. The downside of the garment is that it can be uncomfortable to some patients particularly in the area around the underarms. But what do gynecomastia vests and the TSA have in common?
As a result of having so many patients from out of town, air transportation can sometimes be an unforeseen obstacle. The TSA can have a problem with the vest. The front of the garment closes with a series of hooks that secure each half. This looks strange to the TSA and it’s not uncommon to be called out for a closer inspection.
It would be helpful and less embarrassing if you inform them beforehand that you are wearing the garment for medical purposes so they won’t treat you like a bad person trying to harm others. Leave it up to the TSA to make a lot of drama where none exists.
The compression garment that we suggest you obtain for your procedure is not inexpensive. It is, however, much better than the typical compression garments you can obtain at the store. It’s a medical grade compression, whereas popular athletic compression garments are better after three weeks of wearing the real compression garment.
The compression garment will not keep you from doing anything you would normally do in your life. You can wear the same clothing and engage in whatever activities make you happy. It’s ok to remove the garment for periods of time during your day as needed, but I prefer you wear it more often than not.
The greatest thing about treating your gynecomastia is that in experienced, professional hands, the procedure is short, sweet and recovery isn’t that interesting. Most importantly, it changes patients’ lives. The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner you move on with your life in a positive direction.
